Can PSG keep Mbappe if they sign Messi? They can't dodge financial regulations forever and Real are supposedly interested. Mind you they'd be nuts to pick Messi over Mbappe.

If he goes to PSG, for all the crocodile tears it's all about money. Well kinda Barcelona can't afford him anymore I think his emotion at leaving a club he's been at since he was a teenager is understandable and genuine too Mpabbe and Neymar - alongside Messi (who shows no sign of slowing down) - is quite a prospect for all three players So, yeah, money talks etc but there's more to it I'm sure if he matched the second highest earners salary they could afford him. Purely a money decision at the end of the day. Not criticising, but he is deciding this no one else. Mind you it's hard to feel any sympathy for a man earning insane money who still gets caught up in tax fraud sentences.

I've just read that Messi is leaving cos although he was willing to accept a 50% pay cut that is actually illegal under Spanish law. Odd.

I've just read that Messi is leaving cos although he was willing to accept a 50% pay cut that is actually illegal under Spanish law. Odd. Half right. At least as I understand it. He was willing to take a 50% cut but that would still not have brought Barca into line with the rules of La Liga (previously agreed by all clubs including Barca). What's changed everything is a combination of club mismanagement and, most significantly, the drastic reduction in revenues due to Covid. Total wages have to be below a percentage of revenues (can't remember the number). Barca were hoping La Liga might make an exception for them given the pulling power of Messi for the league but La Liga have stood firm. So, even with a 50% wage reduction, Barca still could not afford to keep him. The main issue is the number of other players, still on contracts, who are on ridiculous money and who they can't move on. Most big clubs have this issue to some extent but not so that it stops them from resigning their star player.

Barcelona are brown bread, I wonder what the future holds for them. What do you mean smog? They are going out of business? Finishing mid table? Getting relegated? None of those things seems remotely likely to me

FFP is a crock of shit, City are propped up with billions of pounds in investment and when they get caught they pay the fine and have whatever ban they get overturned. We’re through the looking glass on this one

I would still expect Barcelona to be battling it out with Real (also cash strapped) and Athletico for the La Liga title - so I seriously doubt they are dropping out of the Champs League places anytime soon Champs League itself is unlikely. Should get into the knock out phase but once they meet Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Bayern, PSG etc then they will most likely come up short With crowds (and tourists) back in Camp Nou their finances should get on a more even keel with 2-3 seasons

Although, maybe people will stop turning up now that Messi is gone, I doubt it, though.

Gerard Piqué - a player who gives a shit His pay cut enabled Barcelona to complete the signings of Eric García and Memphis Depay Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto are expected to take pay cuts too
In Barcelona's 4–2 victory over Real Sociedad at the weekend Piqué headed home Memphis Depay’s free-kick Ronald Koeman said he seen “the best Barcelona in years” which was OTT but the performance did give grounds for some optimism & a team that the coach believed could be, according to Koeman, “more collective” now
