RIP... never flashy, but held down a rock solid groove.

RIP... never flashy, but held down a rock solid groove. Bedrock of The Stones.
RIP Charlie

Genuinely shocked and saddened by the news of Charlie's death The sort of person you think can go on forever A really genuine, understated and funny man who seem to react to most things in his extraordinary life with quiet amusement And everything a good drummer should be
Lovely tribute here from Alexis Petridis... www.theguardian.com/music/2021/aug/24/charlie-watts-the-calm-brilliant-eye-of-the-rolling-stones-rocknroll-stormCharlie Watts: the calm, brilliant eye of the Rolling Stones’ rock’n’roll stormUnruffled amid excess, personality clashes and musical disputes, the Rolling Stones’ exceptional drummer used technique to deepen the meaning and power of their songs

I was spinning a few 45s last night, including The Stones 'Satisfaction'. Charlie's beat on this tune is relentless
Looking for the audio for this song I also came across this great footage live in Ireland, 1965. Heaps going on here. Check out the young priest in the crowd

It's a brilliant clip So much to enjoy and appreciate Appropriately it's from the Charlie Is My Darling film which is a wonderful snapshot of early(ish) Stones - documenting a frenetic tour of Ireland with a lot of the travel by train and cabs. BBC Four showed it a few years back. They might show it again to mark Charlie's passing. Essential viewing if they do show it again
