R.E.M.? What's yer verdict? That first album is blimmin great Was listening earlier and marvelling at how well it stands up I saw them play in Worthig on their very first visit to the UK when I think they only played the Marquee and Carioco's in Worthing. There were about 40 of us in the audience and I recall the band were blown away by our enthusiasm as not many people had picked up on the newly released Reckoning Amazingly there's a lofi recording of the gig here... archive.org/details/REM_1984-04-29/1984-04-29+Carioca+Club%2C+Worthing%2C+England/01.+Fever.flac29 April 1984 R.E.M.- Pilgrimage

Have we not had a thread for this lot before? Maybe the old site?
An American woman who I worked with overseas tuned me into them, probably the best recommendation ever. Loved all the early minimalist stuff and even up to the more polished Automatic For The People. Lost something when Bill Berry had his aneurysm and left the band, albums still had some real classics but some padding as well.
I could play this below and never get bored, the backing harmony is exquisite.

Yes, agree with all of that PU
Even the albums after AFTP had their moments but they were a different kind of band then
