What are you favourite Sabbath tunes Smog? “Into The Void” “War Pigs” “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” “Snowblind” Thansk Smog. I only know War Pigs of that little lot. I'll play the others later

Never done much for me to be honest aside from Paranoid and Hole in the sky from the Sabotage album.

I can't stand metal but the Sabs were original and pre-date the label. I think it was called 'hard rock' when they were doing it.
Iommi could riff with the best of them.
Likewise the Purps and Blackmore.

I've heard very little Sabbath, though I appreciate their foundation stone role for most subsequent Heavy Metal.
This is largely due to having absorbed the "year zero" punk mentality from my peers ; Nothing pre-punk was worthwhile, all of the huge rock dinosaurs were irrelevent, rich, boring old pigs who should hang up their guitars and politely give way to the new breed etc etc.
It goes without saying that it didn't take me long to realise that there was, in fact, enormous worth in music made pre-77. However, bands like Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Led Zep remain a blind spot on the periphery of my musical vision. It's no longer an issue of dogma, simply that the bits I've heard haven't been to my tastes and I've only got a certain amount of time left on this degraded sphere to listen to music.

We've recently discussed the whole year zero thing Bassy. I can't remember which thread it was on now. I think most of us share your opinion that, whilst we may have once bought into it, we also subsequently discovered much to enjoy pre-76/77
We also discussed bandwagon jumpers of whom there were many and decided that they are okay too. At least they realised it was time to cut their hair and write short sharp songs rather than cling to less energetic forms of music

Black Sabbath are one of those bands that, whilst i can appreciate their huge influence on Hard Rock/Metal/Stoner/Alt Rock and i really like some of their songs, i don't need to have all their records. There's a comp called 'We Sold Our Soul For Rock'n'Roll' which mops up the best of the first four.
But this is a fave from the last album Ozzy sang on, before going solo...

Some great tunes and much filler for me. I also enjoyed "Heaven And Hell" when it came out back in '80 I think which had Ronnie Dio on vocals. The title track and "Neon Knights" were great tunes.

Ozzy himself said that the only 'Black Magic' Sabbath knew was the box of chocolates variety.
