Prompted by Doug's recent post in Album of the Day here's a thread about DG Not really my cup of tea but some others here might also enjoy her oeuvre Broken Gargoyles the new offering from the extraordinary Diamanda Galas. Quite a way to start the day.

Her ear-splitting caterwauling makes Thom Yorke seem like Nat King Cole

Saw her live when she came to the Royal Festival Hall a decade or so ago, an astonishing pianist and performer. Obviously a "marmite" performer, but with her supposed 8 octave range she's truly astonishing when she goes for it. Also has done "easier" works of cover versions and worked quite a bit with Le Zep's John Paul Jones who is a huge fan. "Litanies Of Satan" and "Plague Mass" are also quite extraordinary works, you wouldn't play them often but certainly worth hearing at least once. Like Throbbing Gristle and Nurse With Wound and the like you will always get ill informed views that it isn't real music, but we grew up with people telling us that punk wasn't real music either.
