Got to take issue with this sentence in the report...
The Exploited formed in Edinburgh in 1979 and are widely considered to be one of the most influential punk bands of all time
Eh?
Who writes this stuff?
Probably meant to type in "derivative" instead of "influential" - easy mistake to make

I saw the Exploited in the early 80's a couple of times.
They attracted aot of nazi skins and general pissheads.
Lowest common denominator cartoon punk ala John Lydon.

I'm sure that's right. TBH I have never listened to them
My jaundiced view is based on catching them on TOTP a few times where they seemed to offer a stereotypical, unoriginal, reductionist, cartoon version of punk

^^^^^^ That's vaguely true but they did have a few bangers:

Seeing the Exploited play convinced me it was time to knock the punk rock on the head

To be fair to Wattie & Co. They did manage to come up with some good song titles...

To elaborate on my above post.
I saw the Exploited on the Apocalypse Now tour in 81 and in 1982 at the 'Gathering of the Clans', both times they were really weak.
Their first album 'Punk's Not Dead' (complete with anti Crass ranting)is awful as are the early singles.
They also brought a lot of violence to gigs with their tribal, inane mince by trying to bring punk's and skins together.
However, Wattie is an easy target and even though he brings the derision on himself a lot of the time, his vision of punk must be put into context of why he thought punk 'wasn't dead'.(It was a riposte to Crass)
I still think 'Troops of Tomorrow' is a storming punk album which just goes to show they weren't totally hopeless.

I saw the Exploited on the Apocalypse Now tour in 81 So did I, unfortunately. The dates I attended on that tour were mainly to see Discharge.

^I know a couple of punters who seen them in the Bungalow Bar in Paisley in 1980 and said that they'd seen nothing like it.
The Exploited 'headlined' because they were Scottish but everyone knows who the better bands were.
For me it was Discharge, Chron Gen, Anti Pasti and then Wattie and chums.
They must be responsible for one of the most turgid songs ever put to vinyl.

The Exploited 'headlined' because they were Scottish The way I remember it was that they were promoted above Discharge mid-tour cos they had a record in the charts. I went to the bar when they were on at the first couple of dates I saw. I neither know nor care what their opening number was at the Bracknell date, but it was the soundtrack to my exit from the movement. Discharge were awesome. Pasti were ok at a pinch, but nothing special. Chron Gen were weak and Anti Nowhere League were like a Worzels-style joke band.

I was meaning for the Glasgow gig, which is quite odd considering they were from Edinburgh which is as a city is popular as a dose of the skitters.
