Has 2022 been a particularly brutal year for high profile deaths?
Seems that way to me
RIP VW

That dude who does the Sgt Pepper deaths thing would be better off waiting until very late December before publishing it if this year is anything to go by.

A contradictory figure, who like her partner in crime Malcolm McLaren, seemed to have achieved near mythical status, a lot of it in her own head.
From dressing up the street urchins of the metropolitan punk'elite' to meeting and admiring Thatcher and bowing and scraping before the british queen Viv certainly kept a high profile after the punk fashion she created waned.
Not bad for possibly the worst dressed person since Worzel Gummidge.
Influential and progressive on a good day(she was one of the few 'celebrities' to understood the need for Scottish Independence)she'll be remembered for bumflaps and bondage trousers which understated her real influence.
RIP Viv

Would punk have happened without her? How different would it all have been? Vivienne Westwood at an anti-war protest outside a defence and security equipment trade fair in London, September 2021

Punk would have definitely happened without her. She was part of a crowd of people who defined it however that can never be taken away from Viv.
However, I think the clothes aspect of it was already happening without her also anyway. Look at Ian Dury, Richard Hell and Lydon himself.
She expanded and defined the 'brand'. Punk's in Glasgow would never have been able to afford these elitist, expensive clothes which to me is a good thing.

Can't be many of the Kings Rd mob left.
Viv, Jordan, McLaren all gone.
Wonder what the rest of the Pistols think, especially Steve Jonesπ€
Viv and McLaren were like surrogate parents to him according to his book.π

An interesting figure, though for all her claims of being "for the people" she used tax laws to avoid paying a fair wedge and wouldn't even pay interns according to repeated stories in Private Eye. I suppose any artefacts remaining will be in the hands of her dreadful son now.
