The Rich Kids shouldn't have worked but they did. Sort of.
Then again Glen Matlock had written Anarchy and Pretty Vacant
Booted out the Sex Pistols for, supposedly, liking The Beatles and Paul McCartney starting a group called The Rich Kids with Midge Ure out of Slik was not an obvious next step
What's the TP verdict?
Ghosts Of Princes in Towers

Liked them when I saw them live, Lincoln AJs 78 or 79, The Slits supporting. The album? Not quite my thing, Rich Kids, Ghosts of Princes in Towers and Marching Men are the only ones I can remember.
According to the gossip back then,Midge never travelled in the van with the rest of the band and was under a different manager. His time with Slik had allowed him to buy a high end car. Also the Rich Kids were only a stepping stone for him until something else came along, which it did.

A short lived band, that wrote a couple a CLASSIC songs... "Ghosts..." is up there with the Pistols best in my humble opinion. They were doomed to not last long though as they all wanted to do different things, musically and sartorially, so a split was inevitable. Glen went on to form the equally short lived The Spectres and Jimmy Norton's Explosion, also well worth a listen. The Rich Kids one and only album is more than a little over produced, but still a must... this comp of Demos and live... likewise!

The first new wave supergroup. They pretty much defined the 'power pop' template; melodic, positive and energetic.
They deserved to be more successful than they were.
