Sinéad O’Connor has died at the age of 56.
The Irish-born singer was best known for her 1990 single Nothing Compares 2 U.
In a statement shared with RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster, the singer’s family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

Not me. Never paid her a great deal of heed though seem to recall having that first album, think my then girlfriend had it.
I rewatched the Nothing Compares 2 U vid again last night - still packs a punch

Very sad to hear, a great artiste and sadly a very troubled soul. Hope she is at peace now.
Have had her book in my pile for yonks, started it last night, sad to read on about the 3rd page how she intended to live to a very old age to make up for all her lost years when she wasn't herself.

I loved her first album, which I bought immediately upon hearing it playing in the old Marble Arch Virgin Megastore.
I didn't realise that a friend of mine produced her first demo, which was recorded at his studio in County Cork, until he posted it on Facebook today.
