Indeed so oldpunk. Looks like Celtic are going to be Banter FC for another season - probably more so than Arsenal which is quite an achievement.
With two dodgy keepers the latest talk is of signing Joe Hart. Hard to imagine that ending well.

Must admit to not really following Scottish football but what has exactly happened to Celtic. Were they a good team when they won all the titles of were they winners purely because Rangers were kicked back to square 1. and there's no real competition outside the top 2?

Were they a good team when they won all the titles of were they winners purely because Rangers were kicked back to square 1. and there's no real competition outside the top 2? Well Rogue and OP might have a different view but I think Rangers being out of the picture 2012-16 was a massive boost and then of course Rangers were still rebuilding until, after two seasons with Stevie G at the helm, they finally overhauled their Old Firm rivals. Whilst Celtic were enjoying dominance without any competition they were incredibly complacent and did not use that time to really consolidate their dominant position. The owner and the board have been lethargic for years now. Even now, when there is a massive rebuilding project required they have done very little in terms of signings. The only signing that the manager actually wanted was Kyogo Furuhashi. The back five last night could well be the weakest Celtic defence in living memory playing in a competitive game. Goalkeeper is just one of the many positions that needs urgently addressing. Also the futures of previously high value assets Edouard, Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie still need to be resolved, with the first two available to leave on free transfers next summer, and the last one available to do so in January. First rule of football, tie down your key players to long term contacts or, if they won't resign, flog them whilst there's still a couple of years or more on the contract. It's a shambles at the moment. All that said, this time last year resident TP bhoy rogue was feeling pretty confident... The quest for 10-in-a-Row begins in earnest on August the 1st👍😎 The huns and Gerrard under intense pressure to stop it.

Surely there were better choices?

What's the story on the new Aussie manager? Seems a bizarre choice. Surely there were better choices? As I understand it, Celtic wanted Eddie Howe and were confident they would get him. Eddie Howe finally turned them down. No one knows exactly why. This left the club scrambling to get a manager ready for pre-season. Ange Postecoglou was another person they had considered so offered it to him.
The fans seem happy with him and are supportive, rightly laying the blame for the current turmoil at the door of the board. This is a good article about where Celtic and Rangers are currently at... This bit says it all... As the Scottish top-flight season begins on Saturday, Ange Postecoglou’s immediate aim does not involve turning Celtic into credible title challengers. The illusion of a two-horse race – as exciting as the (Scottish) Premiership gets – should prevail for a few months at least owing to the general paucity of opposition to the Old Firm. Rangers excelled domestically in the last campaign, a side worthy only of the Europa League’s last 16 made to resemble Brazil of 1970 at home. Steven Gerrard’s sat 25 points clear of Celtic who, despite total capitulation, were 14 ahead of Hibernian. Supporters of other clubs may laugh at Celtic’s plight but it is a grim – largely economic – reality that they can sleepwalk into a top-two finish.
Postecoglou must somehow and quickly stem an incessant flow of negativity towards his club while preserving his reputation. Celtic’s new manager is not to blame for this troubled scene – albeit his striking comments over recruitment failings weren’t exactly good for the brand – but has it within his gift to lift the mood. Whether he can do that as those in the background scramble around – again – for new players remains to be seen. The first Old Firm match, which will determine so much in terms of attitudes at least, is only four weeks away. For now at least, Celtic are not remotely equipped to go toe-to-toe with their oldest foes. Postecoglou has looked disillusioned, frustrated and agitated even before a league ball is kicked.
The whole article is well worth reading though

I imagine Howe at first saw it as a chance to do a "Brendan" but unless he had resources to give him a good chance of getting above Rangers again, then he would be seen as a failure and not get an EPL job after (his obvious aim). I guess the resources aren't there. This seems like a cheap option. I would be surprised if Celtic aren't looking for another manager in a few months time.

Hearts have done it. They have returned to the Scottish Premiership with a bang. Not such good news for Celtic of course. Already three points behind their big rivals.

Another day another Celtic in crisis article...
Celtic’s dysfunctional state points to a club that has completely lost its way
Celtic do not make a habit of losing their opening league fixture; their defeat against Hearts on Saturday was their first at such a juncture since 1997. One must go back further decades to discover the last time Celtic did not win any of their first three competitive matches in a season. That a Champions League qualifying-stage exit to Midtjylland does not even register as a mild embarrassment says everything about Celtic’s dysfunctional state. This week, a club which prides itself on status far beyond Scotland will begin their quest to scrape towards the Europa League by seeing off Jablonec. It is far from a given.
Rest here.... www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2021/aug/01/celtics-dysfunctional-state-points-to-a-club-that-has-completely-lost-its-wayCeltic’s Tom Rogic and Carl Starfelt after their 2-1 defeat against Hearts at Tynecastle
