After mid '77 I don't really remember seeing any "fashion victims" as you put it. Majority of people just wore what the fuck they wanted and you were just as likely to see a bank clerk on his way home as a Bromley Contingent type. Certainly no one had the dosh for the Sex Shop nonsense so just imitated the less outrageous look of short spikey crop tatty graffitied shirt etc. Rucking was a huge part of the skinhead movement but punk was a musical one, so of course they weren't up for a fight and just wanted a damn good night out without a trip to the local A&E to remember it by. I think every area and the reaction to youth movements is affected by the poverty of the location, it would be just as dangerous to spill someone's pint accidentally in some places as get up their noses by wearing certain clothing. Violence is usually flared by unemployment/ dissatisfaction and wanting an enemy to feel superior too. After Grundy it was dodgy as any member of "straight" society was likely to have a pop, but once that died down it was only skins that really liked a fight. Yes. Good points Doug.

Roguey, if you're up for a bit more robust debating environment I highly recommend an American forum I post on. It's pretty much no-holds-barred, and there are some pretty unpleasant racist Trump types there that I'd enjoy seeing you get stuck into. Here's an example of a typical thread 3bfe4b635ee1-004918.vbulletin.net/node/87821

It's bad enough chewing the fat with you New Labour types👍

And you wonder why very few people post on here? If it's sheer volume of traffic you're looking for, perhaps you should consider setting up a Varukers fan site for Scottish communists. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. True, we could always swap notes.I'll do that and you could tell me about the public schoolboy, prog rock, Iraq War supporting websites you subscribe to?👍

Try being a punk in a huge housing scheme in Glasgow in the late 70's/early 80's. Wasn't there a fair few others at that time where you were? Tough areas have the violence anyway whether or not punk was around. I was from South London and was used to all the violence surrounding the footie at that time so it was just part and parcel of life.

There's not much in the way of argument there, but plenty of haranguing, insulting and threatening I always find that sort of stuff depressing and wonder at the ages of those involved. Don't mind anyone calling me a cunt (is swearing allowed?) but would prefer them to have a reason for doing so. (sure there's many valid ones)

Oddly enough I just watched the documentary We Are Twisted Sister. To this day I still love the first record. Anyway back in the day Twisted was supposed to be signed to Secret records and I am pretty sure its Bushell in this documentary addressing the Crane photo and he says it was a mistake and that he didn’t known Crane at the time or he didn’t know it was Crane. Something like that. I don’t understand why there would be reissues haven’t they already been reissued by Captain Oi?
Anyway I am in the states graduated high school in 86 and still listen to these bands. Wife and kids will be out all day Saturday so I’ll turn on YouTube on the Smart TV and crank up Sparrer at Rebellion or Trans Union Station show In Philadelphia PA. Good quality Sparrer shows.
Sparrer, Sham, Rejects, Resort, Upstarts, Business, Ruts, Clash, Pistols, Blitz, 4-Skins, UK Subs, they get me through the day. Of course the 80s was incredible. Death metal black metal hardcore crossover it was a great time.
