Bit depressing to read that about Cherry Red. I'd naively assumed they were more ethical - especially given their support of various EFL teams which has always felt more altruistic than commercially driven. Ah well. They are not the same label, who facilitated the DK's for example. To be fair who is though? What I object to is revisionist and rehabilitation of Oi(later reinvented as 'streetpunk')when some of these bands were well dodgy. It's strange though, Oi gigs are still skinhead only whereas bands with the streetpunk label tend to get the mohawks and studded leather jacket brigade so there must be some delineation somewhere. |

Good point Doug I know very little about it but always assumed there was a difference between Oi and Streetpunk Streetpunk seems more a more recent, catch-all title that could also include, say, Sham 69 |

The 'streetpunk' tag is a relatively new phenomenon but for me a lot of the so called journalism in VLR is just about sanatising what used to be Oi. Not that this matters anymore but people shouldn't look at Oi through rose tinted glasses as it brought a lot of violence into punk. |
