My main record player is playing up so no punky-reggae parties at my house for a while. But I've got a lot of 78s that I've acquired over the years and a good 78 record player, so here's a chance to catch up on some of these gems.
I play two or three songs each night when I'm doing the washing up. I'll post a few I've been playing here. Anyone else play 78s?

One of the best. I bought it in Kuala Lumpur, of all places.

They're loads of versions of this song, but this one is a bit of a classic.

There's loads of versions of this song as well, but this is the one I've got. The singer was name-checked in a song by The Victims a quarter of a century after making the recording.

Not seen 78s on sale in charity shops for years
Well done for keeping the tradition going
Wonder if PU ever sells them

I get them in with joblots of vinyl but I don't sell them. I find them too fragile being made of shellac, they break easily if you flip through them roughly. The decent tunes, Presley, Holly, old blues etc I move on to a friend's vintage shop. The other stuff, classical and crooners goes to the tip as there is absolutely no demand for it at all.

When I was 11 a school friend with a mutual interest in Elvis invited me to his house.
In his bedroom he had a wind-up gramophone and a stack of old 78's.
He put on '16 Tons' by Tennessee Ernie Ford, pulled his erect c*** out of his pants and asked if I would like to touch it.
I politely declined, and went home promptly.

I've got Aerosmith's Big Ten Inch Record stuck in my head now. I never knew they recorded that song. I only knew the version by Moose Jackson
I haven't got it, unfortunately

There used to be a pub in Sydney with a beer garden that you entered through a green door. To make sure you got the clue it had a sign on it that said 'The Green Door'.
The song was a big hit for Jim Lowe in 1956 . And if it is good for The Cramps, it's good enough for me too. 'Talkin' To The Blues' was a follow up record in 1957.

My version is better than your version.
Dinah Shore appears again, as she was the first to record the song Buttons and Bows in 1947. Gene Autry, "The Singing Cowboy', recorded it a few months later. My favourite version in my collection was recorded in Singapore about twenty years later by Ronnie Ong. It's a 45 not a 78. I was lucky enough to once meet Horace Wee who plays guitar on that record. First time a flanger was used in a recording in the city-state, apparently. Love it

I got Tennessee Ernie doing Anticipation Blues. Would that work?
