Pure punk to my mind - at least in attitude What's yer verdict? Ghost Rider 1977Formed in 1970 and coming out of the same Mercer Arts scene as the New York Dolls, the band sucked up those Stooges, Velvet Underground and 60's garage classics influences and then churned them through a Vox continental, echo chamber and drum machine to produce an unholy soup of loud abrasive electronic textures. If that wasn't provocative sonically, then couple that with a confrontational singer possessed by the spirit of Iggy (and then some) and you have one of the most original bands ever. Synth punk is the only way to describe them or in their own words "Punk, Funk and Sewer Music by Suicide". Truly ahead of their time.www.punk77.co.uk/groups/suicide.htm

...i think they were very much a Punk band, in a time where every band had their own distinct sound.
To say Suicide were ahead of their time, is a massive understatement. Alot of the support slots they did with: The Clash, Elvis Costello and The Cars, they were hated by half the audience, they faced open hostility but played on. At one Clash gig, Alan Vega was attacked onstage with an open razor... but kept on singing
Nearly 10 years later Sigue Sigue Sputnik ripped off their sound to launch their career.

Ahead of their time, got treated shockingly by some early punk audiences

Billy Idol and Bruce Springsteen are big fans... both would mention/name check them in interviews. Bruce often included "Dream Baby Dream" in his live set.
