What do you think of X? The punk group who arguably put the L.A. punk scene on the map X were raw, passionate, and powerful, combining punk's speed and ferocity with rockabilly, blues, country, and other roots styles, in a way that would become quite influential
Their first two independent albums, Los Angeles (1980) and Wild Gift (1981) got the critical thumbs up and apparently sold well, establishing Slash Records. Billy Zoom is one of the best rockabilly guitarist to emerge from punk and it still looks great as I saw for myself about 15 years back

Billy Zoom played on the first four albums by X - all GREAT records. Beyond that he left the band and their sound got smoother… the songs not so great and more mainstream.
But they released a pretty good album in 1993 without Billy called “Hey Zeus”
I have the vinyl on order for "Alphabetland" from their Bandcamp page… still waiting but have the downloads.
It’s a very strong but rather short album. Good to see all the original members of the band back together.

LA punk legends X: ‘The violence didn’t bother me as much as the spitting!’They chronicled 1980s Los Angeles as a nihilist nightmare and became a key voice in the city. Releasing their final album, they recall the wild parties – and rocky romances
Smoke & Fiction is released 2 August 2024 on Fat Possum Records
