...all a bit sad really. It's like Hugh resents the fact they have survived and thrived without him.

^^^^^^ Yeah it's as if some entity other than himself has caused his reduced status.
He did look bored shitless of being in the Stranglers as early as 1980 though.

Excellent set, mixture of old and new. Be interesting to see what they do after this tour in terms of playing live.

A friend texted me yesterday to tell me he had a spare ticket for The Stranglers sold out gig in Bristol. I feel really lucky to have gone to this gig, as this is their last ever tour (they will still be playing festivals though)
They played a really good mixture of songs from across the decades, plenty from the first four albums, plus singles - a healthy dose of new songs from 'Dark Matters' too. Everything from 'Golden Brown' 'Always The Sun' Skin Deep' to 'Curfew' 'Straighten Out'
For their first encore, Baz and JJ played acoustic, when JJ introduced 'And If you should see Dave' at first he really struggled not to cry. It was very moving, but he got through the song. 'Tough guys' have feelings too - It was his 70th Birthday so the crowd sang 'Happy Birthday' to him.

Watch him live now , he still looks bored shirtless and there seems no energy whatsoever at his gigs.Given the choice if Hugh performing Stranglers songs , or Stranglers doing Stranglers songs , I take Stranglers every time , even without Dave Greenfield .
