He had a good innings, dying at 96. But still I'm sad: he was a very witty man, and brought real class to everything he did, from "Sale of the Century" (for which he wrote all the questions as well as presenting) to "Just a Minute" to his straight acting (including an appearance in "Dr Who", in which he was astonishingly good).

Ah, part of the furniture he was. Completely inappropriate to have a minutes silence though.

Yes, he seemed to have been around for ever and worked pretty much right to the end
96 is indeed a good innings
He hosted Just a Minute, the Radio 4 quiz show, from its inception in 1967 until the present day
Stephen Fry: “Oh no. Nicholas Parsons gone? He ruled Just a Minute for Just a Lifetime. A stunning achievement: never scripted, always immaculate. From comedian’s sidekick to great institution, via Sale of the Century & much more. Unrivalled continuity, professionalism & commitment. Farewell x.”

I recently laughed out loud at Paul Merton's gentle ribbing of Nicholas Parsons on 'Just a Minute'
'As William Shakespeare once said to Nicholas Parsons....'
(ripple of laughter)
'...what was Julius Caesar really like?'
RIP

Can't wait until he cops it so I can say'What a tit no one liked you and you were fucking talentless'! Anyway, Nicholas was a minor film star in the 50's/60's before he really found fame with'The Quiz of the Week'. RIP
