Incredibly they're back
Here's Trash Glam Baby
If you can put aside the negativity most people probably feel towards their singer the song is pretty good, but then I'm a sucker for anything that references Glam rock
Back in the day I also quite liked She's So Modern and Mary of the Fourth Form but then they got quite annoying quite quickly
Forthcoming album 'Citizens of Boomtown' is out 13th March 2020

Pretty much what you'd expect from them, lyrics reminiscent of Rat Trap/Diamond Smiles.
It's a meh from me.

This is fantastic news for all of the band's fans. Does anyone know who they are?

If that was an album track i'd say it was OK, but as a BIG comeback single, i agree with P.U. that's a pretty 'Meh' especially compared to the run of classic singles they released between 77-79 They just come across as a bunch of Rich old blokes trying to rekindle something they lost years ago

They just come across as a bunch of Rich old blokes trying to rekindle something they lost years ago I was wondering, what have the rest of the band been doing while Bob was being a saint? And are they rich?

No idea what the rest of them have been doing. Real jobs I imagine. I doubt they have much money except, perhaps Johnny Fingers, who as co-writer might have a bit more from the publishing.

Fingers does filmscores for Japanese anime, so won't be in poverty. The bass player Briquette drifted back into traditional Irish music, I had an album in not so long ago with him playing on a ex Pogues Terry Wood set.

Interesting - thanks PU
I remember watching a documentary about Graham Parker reforming the Rumour for a tour and they were all doing regular jobs (teaching, working in a library etc). Guess GP & The Rumour never hit the dizzy heights of The Boomtown Rats

Guess GP & The Rumour never hit the dizzy heights of The Boomtown Rats Yes, the Boomtown Rats were a much bigger band... in the UK anyway. But Graham Parker had/still has something of a cult following in the U.S. I watched the documentary too... it made me go and checkout some of his music that i overlooked at the time. I really like the album "Squeezing Out Sparks"

Despite Parker not liking being labelled new wave or associated with punk, I always had time for his hard driving R&B. A soulful Eddie and the Hot Rods if you will. 2nd album Heat Treatment is probably my fave, includes Pouring It All Out and Hotel Chambermaid.

thanks PU - enjoyed that review and the comments
I thought this was one a goodie....
It's always life-affirming to read non-musical consumer/commenters, who must at this stage be in their mid- to late-fifties and really ought to know better, disparage one pop/rock confection in favour of another and test them in the crucible of 'real' punkdom for credibility and relevance.
I often wonder if these BTL warriors are having their varicose veins and cataracts treated by 'real' do-it-yourself punk doctors (Dr. Marten?), or do they sell out and go for those establishment toadies?

Got a clutch of their albums in the other day: Tonic for the Troops; Fine Art if Surfacing and Mondo Bongo. Played from earliest to last, they were a band running out of steam. The punk lite stuff gets thinner and the soulless Springsteen type tunes become turgid. Couldn't finish Mondo Bongo.
It left me musing how did it go wrong so quickly? Two number ones within a year and then lower up the charts into obscurity. Hmm....
