Seem to be a lot about recently Are you braced for Storm Dennis? The Met Office have issued a danger to life warning And, if that wasn't bad enough, Storm Ciara already dumped a month-and-a-half of rain on us last weekend, leaving ground waterlogged and rivers swollen Are you going to be braving the weather this weekend? Taking any precautions?

I won't be heading very far this weekend. I'm pretty exposed as I have the penthouse in the island's tallest building, facing straight out to sea, but Ciara didn't do any damage. That wasn't the case with one of the severe storms last year: I woke up to a loud banging. A wander round the flat confirmed that the end of one of my balconies had been ripped away and was banging in the wind. I called the emergency 24-hour number for the management company of the complex, but by the time they got here it was gone. Thank God it didn't hit anyone or anything on the way down – it would have killed a person and could have smashed a car flat. The photo shows the damage:

You must be worried that bits of your building fall off in high winds

As long as it's only the balcony surrounds, I'm not too worried. If chunks of masonry start tumbling, then I'll start panicking.

The shop foyer flooded a few years ago so I've got sandbags ready just in case.

Not too bad at the moment. Both seafronts are closed to traffic but that is a regular occurrence in winter anyway.
Local media going into a frenzy about young teens holding onto the barriers on the sea walls and letting the waves crash over them. Idiots.... though I would have done something just as stupid way back then.

The wind and rain were pretty wild here earlier. One gust physically shook the building. It seems to have calmed down now, so I was able to nip out for a quick early supper.

Wet and windy here but not too bad all things considered
That said, I think the South Coast gets it worse tomorrow
All the footie matches, even the non league ones seem to have gone ahead

Passed Scarborough by with the odd impassable country lane, yet thirty miles away in York town centre they're on high alert as the River Ouse is about to break its banks.

So the rock n roll event went ahead withouth incident?
Just lots of rain and some quite high winds on the south coast
Even got a bit of calm and sun mid morning but then it stared raining heavily again - seems like the worst is over
We got off likely as more than 230 flood warnings were still in place across the UK this morning. The scale of flooding was described as “unprecedented” in Wales, where a man died after falling into the River Tawe.
A woman who also swept into flood water near Tenbury in Worcestershire.
Horrendous

A bit of a poor turnout at the RocknRoll weekend apparently. Hardly surprising considering the weather forecast, I drove through Scarborough Saturday night and the place was deserted. I get a little bemused at promoters who think that events would draw people in an end of the line seaside town in the middle of February.

Putting aside the travel issues, the strong winds would play havoc with their quiffs
