The rare Gouldian finch has been spotted in my region recently (look it up, beautiful bird). I have been out twice to one of the sites where they have been seen, but no luck. I'll keep looking. If I spot any and can take a photo, I'll post it here. I have seen lots of other birds, however. This morning I came across a large group of red-winged parrots resting in a tree. I can't get a very sharp photo when I blow it up, but it gives you an idea

Finally managed to spot a few Gouldian finches this morning. Too far away to take a photo with my limited equipment, but this is what they look like:
I'll go again in a few days. See if I can get a closer look

Australian forest early morning bird song
Very relaxing. This is from central Victoria. I have an NT Top End version we often play to overpower the sound of our neighbour's pool pump

That's wonderful jsm - lots of those calls sounds so alien to my Brit-centric ears

That's wonderful jsm - lots of those calls sounds so alien to my Brit-centric ears Many early British settlers to Australia could not appreciate Australian bird calls and complained that local birds could not sing
