Today's album of the day... Something Else (1966)
Each album was a huge leap forward for them during the 60s - this is magnificent and still sounds very fresh

It all worked out quite well in the end though. The American ban was lifted in early 1969 which ultimately resulted in them enjoying belated success in the US throughout the 70s and 80s

I reckon they might have headed in a more mainstream 'rock' direction if they had spent the late 60s touring the US, at the expense of the quintessential English whimsicality (epitomised by 'Village Green') that makes them unique.
