I agree but there are Vegans who to stop them hunting don't allow them out the house. That's wrong and they should be banned from keeping pets

It's a conundrum in the Vegan world whether you try to deny a cat it's natural instincts. I'm vegan. That's a choice I made for myself. When cat brains have evolved to a level when they can weigh up the same choice I'll guilt trip them over it but that's unlikely to happen in my lifetime. This is why I'm not 'into'animal rights. There are too many right wing nutters involved with it. It's a sanctimonious cult.

If people want to eat meat that's entirely up to them.
The fact is that some people believe that animals are there solely to be eaten and for me it's a legitimate view point for some people.

Does that include people who hunt and kill for food?
People like indigenous tribes?
It's ok for wealthy people in the west to be sanctimonious with their Greggs vegan sausage rolls
A lot of it borders on fanaticism.
I mean look at Hitler.

People like indigenous tribes? They're a bit different, obv, but if you dig into their belief systems you can find respect for their prey in some cases. Ancient cave paintings also bear this out. Vegetarianism is definitely one of the luxuries of technologically advanced agrarian societies.

That's true.
I think theres a big difference between that and some fuckhead who pays regular visits to McDonalds.
Some vegan extremists could argue that even keeping pets is oppression.
Whatever next?the Goldfish Liberation Front.

In Australia, cats are a totally alien species. They kill heaps of wildlife. Many places have now made it illegal for cats to be allowed outdoors at night; seems they kill more at night.

Feral cats kill lots of wildlife as do foxes.
I have no problem with any of it personally.

I don't have any pets now, but when I was a teenager I had a large black dog called Pamela. She was quite quirky and had diverse tastes: she liked to start the day with a couple of rounds of toast (which had to be fairly well-done as she liked it crunchy) and was obsessed with chocolate, though only human chocolate (she wouldn't touch dog chocolate).
Two of Pam's favourite activities were scaring the shit out of people and trying to murder the window cleaner.
On particularly dark nights, she would go upstairs, stand up, stick her head out of the window and wait until people were walking underneath. She'd then let out an earsplitting howl like the Hound of the Baskervilles and they'd jump into the air in terror, which she found hilarious.
Her main ambition in life was to make the window cleaner fall off his ladder and kill himself. When he was cleaning the upstairs window, she'd start on the far side of the room, use the bed as a trampoline and smash into the window with full force, snarling and baring her teeth. She never managed to make him fall off, though the latter wobbled a few times.

I’ve got two cats. One sedentary loaf named Bob and one vibrating kitten named Lara.

We have an 11 year old Jack Russell terrier cross, she's just great.
She's curled up on the sofa beside me now while the wind howls outside.

Had cats since I got married nearly 40 years ago. My current rescue is an utter pain in the bum though. Insists on sleeping between us at pillow height every night, should of called him "cockblock".
