Never heard either of those, must investigate. I came in late with Indiscreet, a marvellous eclectic album with rockers and music hall standing side by side. Took me a few years to find out they were American, the TOTP posturing and album covers seemed to point to some obscure European country.
The lyrics sometimes reinforced the idea that English wasn't their first language:
Zoo time, is she and you time? The mammals are your favourite type, and you want her tonight Heartbeat, increasing heartbeat You hear the thunder of stampeding rhinos, elephants and tacky tigers This town ain't big enough for the both of us And it ain't me who's gonna leave

I used to see them in record racks, but have only got round to buying them recently. The Sparks 'sound' was distinctive before they moved to the UK. This is one of my favourite songs...

I've got both those albums Andy but never really paid em much heed. I suppose I should give them a proper listen
I've got pretty much everything the Maels have ever done
I love the recent albums, adore the Island albums, especially Kimono, and also have mad love for the collaboration with Moroder - No 1 Song In Heaven. Had that on yellow vinyl back in the day.
The Maels are legends
Also seen them live twice - superb

So anyone want to whack up a quick top five/six or top ten of Sparks tunes?
Or dole em out one at a time like we used to do back in the ol TP days - Six of the Best
Perhaps a Sparks Six of the Best starting on Monday?
Anyone up for it?
Your favourite six tracks by Sparks
Track 6 - Monday -> through to your number one all time fave on Saturday (or whenever)

I'm in, though it will be the Kimono to Indiscreet years. Never got on with the Moroder stuff and never really listened properly to FFS.

BOTH the 'Pre-Kimono' albums are well worth checking out... particularly the first one.
Here they are German TV in 1972... two years before they had their first hit here.

This tune, from a few years ago, is an absolute corker...

This one, from December 2019, is slightly Never-Turn-Your-Back-On-Mother-Earth-like (if you use your imagination) but still pretty flipping great....

SPARKS SIX OF THE BEST
In at number six it's...
Tryouts for the Human Race
By 1979 everyone was it it - going disco that is
Few enlisted the king of the genre Giorgio Moroder whose I Feel Love is/was the defining track
The album No. 1 in Heaven is, alongside Kimono My House, the best the Maels ever made - admittedly against a body of many an impressive LP - but you know it's true
