Two serving police officers in Manchester have been charged with making or distributing an indecent image of a child. Cameron Barker, 26, and James Williams, 39, have been suspended pending criminal proceedings, GMP said.
They have been charged in relation to an image that alleged to have been shared. They will appear at Tameside Magistrates' Court on July 14.
The force said they have been suspended by the Professionals Standards Branch pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.
A spokesperson said: "Cameron Barker (26) and James Williams (39) – both police constables in the City of Manchester – will appear on Thursday 14 July at Tameside Magistrates’ Court accused of the offence.
"Both officers have been suspended by our Professionals Standards Branch pending the outcome of criminal proceedings and any subsequent misconduct hearing."

A police sergeant has resigned in disgrace after an investigation found he had shared vile pornographic videos as well as discriminatory jokes on WhatsApp. Married Glyn Martin, who had been a respected officer with Greater Manchester Police for 14 years, left the force in shame weeks before a disciplinary hearing found him guilty of gross misconduct. The Rochdale -based officer - who has received counselling for a self-confessed addiction to online porn - shared a series of vile clips, some showing sexual violence and bestiality and two offensive pictures featuring disabled people. He also received - but did not forward - anti-Semitic and Islamophobic content as well as an image glorifying a white supremacist. Martin also confessed to 'sexting' and being engaged in 'multiple concurrent chats' online. A man took his own life after wrongly being named as a paedophile in a "human error" by police. Brian Temple was 34-years-old when he died on December 31, 2017. Six months earlier, on June 8, he had been arrested for allegedly stealing a pack of sausage rolls from Greggs.
The first day of his inquest on Monday, June 20, heard that upon arriving home from custody, Mr Temple gave his release papers to his then-girlfriend. But unbeknown to him, law enforcement had made an error in which they had produced the wrong information. The letter stated he been in custody for inciting sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl, which he had not. A married police dog handler has been jailed after violently attacking and trying to rape a woman he met at a pub. Ernesto Ceraldi, 44, left the woman, who said she thought she was going to die, bloodied and bruised after repeatedly throttling and punching her during the terrifying ordeal. In one of the images, the man’s genitals are understood to be exposed, while another is said to have had a speech bubble added. After more than three years investigating, the ombudsman is waiting to hear if prosecutions can be brought.
Two Police Service of Northern Ireland officers under investigation were at the scene when the man’s body was discovered in Belfast in 2017. One officer has been suspended on full pay and several arrests have been made.

A GMP officer has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a teenager was left paralysed when he was hit by a police car in Stockport. Sarah De Meulemeester, 25, based at Cheadle Heath Police station, is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court on Friday (5 August) after being charged over the incident.
