He's one of those people who doubtless had a stellar career and yet I barely know him for anything in particular
He was, as you say, part of the furniture and he seemed to be a good egg too

Seriously, Roy was never given enough credit for his writing. Like Barry Cryer he was one of English comedy's unsung heroes.
