Its a pity Cut the crap was so horrendously produced, there are afew good songs on it as this live stuff is OK.

I've heard the whole album, with the full band, pre-Bernie Rhodes stepping in taking over and wrecking it - I guess Sony own the rights to it, but it would be good for it to be officially released.

...Although i don't know how much 'Complete Control' he still has regarding their back catalogue... maybe to date, Bernie Rhodes has blocked this, after all, if the original recordings got officially released, it makes his efforts and meddling look vastly inferior.

Thanks Stu - sounds pretty good, though not really like The Clash Interesting commentary under the vid.... Here's a word from Gerald Manns who remixed/rebooted this... "Well, like everyone I was extremely disappointed when CTC was released in 1985. I knew the new songs from different bootlegs, like Bring The House Down, Five Alive etc. All the years after I was hoping for the existence of some mastertapes that were smuggled out of the studio in munich by a mindful technician. But literature that was released decades later showed that Paul and Pete didn't take part in the recordings.
Last year I found two different audio editing softwares with different algorithms to separate vocals from an existing audio recording. The De-Berniator idea was born. So after ripping Joe's vocals from the tracks, cleaning them up (a lot of noisy bits, especially in The Dictator, had to be removed).
Next step was to get a good live performance of every song, copying Pete's drums beat by beat into a drum machine that sampled original drum sounds.
On songs The Clash didn't perform live I had to lay down the tracks in a Pete Howard stylee by myself. After that came listening, learning, rehearsing and recording guitars and basslines.
To get a better sound I had to buy a Les Paul to differ from my Telecaster sound (nice axe to have anyway). I had to add some backing vocals because the algorithms swallowed some of the football chants (didn't make them out as vocals). It took me a while to mix it all, but now it was time to kick it out of my house.
Especially in different Facebook groups are a lot of hate regarding the last line-up of The Clash. I think these were quite descent songs and a lot of fun to listen to now. For me, this is the CTC I expected and hoped for when it was released in 1985.
Feel free to spread these recordings wherever you like, maybe it will shine a better light on the last line-up.
Have fun!"GMAN

My news feed on my phone seems to be full of musical articles from sites I've never heard of. Titles like Townshend's favourite Who song, Geddy Lee still misses Neil Peart, Lou Reed's darkest times. Some of them are barely three paragraphs of badly written bollocks, usually penned by some non-entity hack. They exist only to highlight the adverts for things you never thought you needed that pop up all over the article The worrying thing here is young people will read this nonsense and think it is definitive. Now everybody's entitled to an opinion but this recent Clash blog is just plain lazy. The very fact that the scribe here claims Should I Stay..is the best track on Combat Rock shows how little he knows about the band. Annoying. faroutmagazine.co.uk/the-clash-best-song-from-every-album-strummer-jones-simonon-headon/?amp

The Clash thing is just two 12 inch EP singles (ten tracks), a photo and some mumbled interviews. A new copy of Sandinista is the same price, 36 tracks, three page lyric sheet with Steve Bell cartoons. For anoraks and trainspotters only.

Or just another record company scam to separate punters from their money? Most stuff seems to just turn up on Ebay a few days later with the requisite 100% mark up.

It was a great idea in the beginning Doug. It helped the small independent shops by encouraging people back to vinyl. But the big labels and distributors took over, forcing retailers to take joblots without a sale or return clause. And yeah, lots of those queueing for the Bowie, Damned, Queen, pink marble press, double pack with tacky badge etc had no interest in the product except the mark up they'd make 48 hours later.

So to what extent do you still bother with it PU? I don't have any connection to it whatsoever now. In the early days you could cherry pick the items on offer, the profit wasn't great on them but they would all sell. Later on you'd get a package list of vinyl, which you had to take all of, some non descript, unheard of indie which you would be lumbered with. And RSD will never admit it but some independents were favoured over others and those favoured ones would get a better looking vinyl package list. HMV and Fopp are now trying to get in on the act and if RSD allows that, it means the initial reason it once stood for will be dead.

Sounds eminently sensible In other Clash news... The Clash debut album is 44 years old today What set this record apart from the other punk releases at the time was that it was really the first record to document just how boring and frustrating it was to be young in the mid to late 70’s. Even if you were lucky enough to have a decent job, hobby or interest, there was little hope of pursuing them after 11pm as everywhere shut down. Most people’s salvation was in music, and in this album they found that their lives were being mirrored perfectly. When you listen to this album, you can easily find one or more songs that relate directly to your life. From a tribute over on Louder Than War... louderthanwar.com/the-clash-debut-album-is-44-years-old-today-a-celebration/
