Who's yer favourite Monkee? What's yer verdict? Is it all about Head? Or do you dig the poptastic singles too?
What are you favourite tunes by The Monkees?
i've always had a soft spot for Randy Scouse Git...

Panned and mocked at the time, for being manufactured... but by todays standards of cold calculated marketing of 'aural product for mass consumption' they are Beethoven by comparison.
The Lone Sharkies played 'Steppin Stone' at gigs as a mark of respect to Peter Tork around the time of his death. This is a great lesser known song...

It's an urban legend that has gained traction, despite there being no documented evidence, that a certain Mr Charles Manson auditioned to be a Monkee. Pleasant Valley Sunday and Valerie are 'poptastic'.

I bloody love them.🤩
A better pop band you'll never hear
Strangely though. They were never considered an albums band but I've listening to a lot of the albums themselves recently as I never really knew them.
Pretty good stuff👍

Who's yer favourite Monkee? I'm a Peter guy, to the bone The Monkees theme tune is unique for me in that it evokes two contrasting emotional responses; joy and anticipation, or desolation, depending on whether it is accompanied by the opening or closing titles of the TV show.

I would say Michael Nesmith due his solo stuff having such a unique sound but honestly they were all good people.

Micky Dolenz for me
But Mike Nesmith's solo work is class - and he was the most talented

Anyone who was responsible for bringing Metal Mickey to the screen must be immensely talented.

Michael was probably the most introspective member of the band.

Tork was also an accomplished musician who got the gig on a recommendation from his friend Stephen Stills. Stills tried out for the band but wasn't considered photogenic enough. The audition panel said they were looking for a Nordic, blonde type, Stills passed that onto Tork and the rest is history.
Tork was a little bitter in later years that his boyband fame stopped him being taken seriously as a proper musical artist.
And without googling, what did Mike Nesmith's mother invent?

Tippex or correction fluid.
However, wisely she sold the company well before the digital revolution so I think Mike must be sitting on that pile of cash.
Nesmith was clever in so far that he was already embarking on his solo career as the Monkees were falling apart.

Nesmith wasn't a team player. He could afford to walk out of their reunion tour cos he had his mum's Tipp Ex money to fall back on. Fancied himself as a serious solo artist but his crowning achievement was that bland 'Rio' tune which was about as inspiring as 'Je Suis un Rock Star' by Bill Wyman

Renowned character actress Irene Handl played Granny in the awful Metal Mickey series. When asked how she got her motivation for the part, she replied 'My mortgage'.
