Most of my life I really didn't care too much for The Doors. Over the years I occasionally listen to some live Doors and it's ok. And then I stumbled across this gem . HahaHA IT KIND OF MAKES ME THINK OF THE END OF THE WORLD. Typically I hate horns in a song.

I got big into them when I was 18, but grew out of them quickly. Morrison comes across as a bit pretentious in hindsight.
That said, their debut album was way ahead of its time

Yeah I had a big Doors phase but I never really grew out of it
I don't play them very much and, whatever Jim's shortcomings, he was a great front man and their back catalogue is chock full of classics
Every album has plenty to recommend it
Even at the very end they were producing gems like Been Down So Long, LA Woman, and Riders on the Storm...
Riders on the Storm

Everyone seems to go through a Doors phase as a teenager then grow out of it. Bad 6th form poetry and a keyboard sound that makes you want to kill yourself after half an hour.

There were three big 'best of' records i saved up my pocket money to buy in the mid to late 70s: The Doors Alice Cooper and Roxy Music ...the great thing about all of them is they included some choice album tracks too... i ended up seeking those out in one format or another
Jim might have got a tad pretentious when he was repeat shouting at us about "Petitioning the Lord with prayer" but i thought most of his lyrics were remarkable and The Doors music still sounds very fresh to me.

We park our bicyles in the same bike rack Andy Dunno why this tune popped into my head but it did, it's quite proggy but I digs it... Spanish Caravan

They had some sublime moments
If I never hear Light My Fire again though it'll be too soon

The Doors were the first band i can think of that wrote really dark, haunting eerie pop music... the perfect soundtrack to a 'creepy crawl'

To me they go with teenage angst and the whole doomed "Dionysian" thing. His "poetry" was sixth form stuff and the keyboard sound was just way too overpowering. Did a few good songs and LA Woman is a great record but too preposterous to take very seriously.

Great pop band though.
Some superb tunes.
And Jim was a great front man.
An arse no doubt but he made the band

We already had a thread on the Doors. There will be hell to pay when Nigey sees this
