I used to buy it regularly in the 80's and 90's. Some great characters in there; Roger Mellie, Spoilt Bastard, Biffa Bacon and Cockney Wanker to name a few.
The tips, letters and ads were great too. I remember these two in particular -

Like Woke and Cancel Culture never happened.
I buy the hardback collections of the back issues. The Jack Black mystery comic strip is one of my faves. Funniest one I saw recently was Sting of the Dump, where the ex police bassist writes and performs the most spectacularly bad musical on life in the North East.

I love "Viz" and used to read it regularly during my commute to London.
There was also a second-rate competitor to "Viz" called "Zit", which was less funny and more offensive. Its editor was a friend of my art director, so we had a go at creating a comic strip for it. They rejected it for being too offensive – probably the only time that ever happened with "Zit".
The strip was called "Arnie the Termination" and concerned the adventures of an abortion. They told us they thought they'd get lynched if they published it.

Zit was one that probably lasted the longest in competition to Viz. There were also other very short lived comics on the market at that time: Acne, Smut, Gas to name but a few, very collectable these days.
The magazine Now Or Never which I sometimes contributed to was going to follow suit and they sent several pilot strips out to their readers and contributors for feedback. The general consensus was it was offensive but not funny and the idea was binned.
