Don't think I could do a top five albums as, despite, the truly great songs they've put out every studio set after Who By Numbers are average to poor. The sixties albums are also patchy, A Quick One is infantile, Tommy overrated and if you can't pronounce Armenia properly, well....
However, a trio of early seventies output, each one a stone cold classic. Who Live At Leeds, original LP press, later extended CD's loses power somewhat. Who's Next, the meisterwork. Daltrey's scream, Moon's artillery, etc etc. Impossible to drive a car at the given speed limit whilst this is playing. Quadrophenia, a concept album that works with no pretensions. Every track bang on the story, no self indulgent instrumentals.
A shout out to the 1970 Live at the Isle of Wight DVD. Townshend windmilling, Daltrey rock Adonis and the obligatory smash up at the end.

I think a decent singles comp is also essential e.g.
Who's Better Who's Best, or
The Who Hits 50
And I also rate...
The Who Sell Out

I don't own five Who albums, so I can't play the game either.
The three I've got I rate highly:
Best Of The Who - a contemporary 60s release that belonged to an older brother.
The Who Sell Out - ditto
My Generation - a re-release I bought myself
I did once own Live At Leeds and Quadrophenia and sold them both, as I was not so excited. Did I make a mistake? Quite likely. Several times I have got rid of records and then bought them again a few years later.
Best Of The Who tracklist:
Substitute 3:48 Pictures Of Lily 2:36 Disguises 3:06 Batman 1:21 Barbara Ann 1:56 In The City 2:22 Happy Jack 2:08 I'm A Boy 2:38 Doctor Doctor 2:54 Circles 2:24 I've Been Away 2:04 Bucket T 2:04

That is indeed brilliant - he certainly knew his way round a bass

Live at Leeds is one of the all time classic Live albums.
Pretty raw too as you would expect and do I detect a guitar sound that can be heard latterly in the Pistols?

You can argue it was his 'band' (Paul Weller of The Jam) but to treat someone (Foxton and Butler) like that shows you where that big tit's head and heart lies. By the same token you can argue that The Who were Townshend's band but Pete did it right. Having recently read Roger's autobiography (which is a brilliant read) I would take issue with this Pete and Rog have finally reached some kind of accommodation but Rog was treated like shit - booted out of the band at one period just for being the only one who cared enough about the shows and the behaviour of the drummer

Well there's a bit more to it than that
Here's my review of Thanks a Lot, Mr. Kibblewhite, RD's excellent autobiography...
I am not a big fan of The Who but like them well enough. I decided to read Roger Daltrey's biography more on a whim than anything else.
It’s surprisingly good.
Roger Daltrey comes over as a really forthright and decent bloke who just happened to end up in a rock band. The stories from his humble West London working class childhood are really interesting.
That Roger is by far and away the most grounded and sane member of The Who comes as no surprise. His matter-of-fact tales of his bandmates' behaviour are frequently jaw dropping. To say the other members have (or had) issues is an understatement.
Overall this is an entertaining, insightful, hugely likeable and extremely readable rock biography. My only complaint, it's far too short.

I can't think of too many groups where the drummer was as big a stage presence as the guitarist and the singer
It doesn't get any better than this does it?....
A promo film for The Who’s 1978 single ‘Who Are You’ from the album of the same name. Filmed at The Who’s Ramport Studios in Battersea, London on 4 May 1978 by Jeff Stein Stein for inclusion in his documentary The Kids Are Alright.

The Who Sell Out is probably my favourite album of theirs..."I Can See For Miles" their greatest single. The Who had a wonderful sense of humour around this time... here is a great 'lost' overlooked single. Pete's banter at the end is hilarious...

...Dogs was a single and made the Top 30 Nigey, even going one notch higher than the better known song Magic Bus in the UK. But gets missed on most compilations of their singles.
