I remember thinking this band was so pathetic in the late 70s but now I love some of their stuff although I still detest Dreamer.
Did a really good live album too. Live in Paris I think.
I've not heard anything before Crime of the Century but I know it was not successful.
Roger Hodgson has done a few good things since leaving too.

Never a fan at all, Breakfast In America must be one of the most overrated albums ever. However, this opens Crime of the Century and it always reminds me of those bleak winter morning walks to Junior school and facing archaic teachers who thought education had to be drummed into you.

I hated that band beyond all known reason.

Don't think I've heard that one before
I like it
As you say, very evocative of education in the 70s
Would you call it Prog? Prog-pop (if that exists)? Or just an elaborate pop song?
Whatever it is it works for me
Goodbye Stranger turns up on the soundtrack of the excellent film I Tonya and works brilliantly. I suspect I might quite like Breakfast in America if I ever get round to listening to it.

Don't know why radio plays the awful Dreamer endlessly when there are gems like this ignored.

The last album with Hodgson is pretty damn good despite the reputation it has.

Was just playing it and loving it 🤠I was just also playing solo Roger Hodgson album - In The Eye Of The Storm Amazingly he played virtually every instrument and it's chock full of Tramp-esque tuneage that sounds pretty flipping good if you like the Tramp's proggy-pop schtick

It's the only solo LP of his I have though there is a very good track on his second one:
