I'm not s huge fan of fiction but I got this in the supermarket for a fiver a few months ago.
This won the Booker prize in 2020.
Written by Douglas Stuart this is a semi biographical account of a child growing up with his alcoholic mother.
The story is set on the Southside of Glasgow but also in Lanarkshire.
Even though it's been well received by the Hipster elite it comes across as being written by an old woman after reading the Sunday Post.
Considering that Stuart was born in 1976 it makes you wonder if the experiences are real or imagined as the timeline is late 70's/early 80's but to be honest, it's all over the place.
Sounds like he's been listening to his granny telling tall tales over a mug of stewed tea in the kitchen.
The hipsters will love it but this is pretentious.
3/10.
