Those electric fires sometimes took ages to heat the room up.
If you didn't use them for a while they used to collect a lot of stoor(dust to the heathens!)which would burn off and create that musty smell.
Always remember that. Also, us all huddled around it during the three day week!

Also, us all huddled around it during the three day week! Oh yeah - the burnt dust smell. Anyone remember those wee 2 bar electric fires? One of my earliest memories is touching the element in order to see what it felt like Ouch. That's gotta hurt. Seem to remember that, if you were patient, you could toast bread on them too. More than just a heater. Risky drying socks with them though.

The convector heaters were expensive to run unless you were using Blackbox.com as your energy provider 😂😎

...which as any Mail reader will tell you was Labour's fault, despite the fact that Heath was PM

As we get towards winter in the shop I dig a a couple of convectors out and with the records being magnets for dust as well, I have to open the windows for an hour to let the smell dissipate, might as well chuck a couple of quid directly into the street.

So that's why record shops are always freezing?🤔

Still all my older relatives vividly remember growing up with frost on the inside of their windows etc. Having warm houses in winter is a very recent thing. Sounds like my last car.

I always wondered about Eamonn Holme's views on shingles.

So that's why record shops are always freezing?🤔 Heat and vinyl don't mix. When Sainsbury got into records, they had a big display directly under one of those giant hot air blowers, thought of telling the shop manager.... but fuck em.

I was in the new Missing Records in Glasgow a couple of weeks back and not only was there the usual musty smell there was a smell of pish as the auld shop used to a place where all sorts of dossers and junkies would congregate for a heat. Looks like they've followed the shop😀

Will swap 200 toilet rolls and 50kg of dried pasta for 10 litres of diesel.
Fucking mainstream media winding up the sheep again....
