Electricity in the UK has become the most expensive in Europe while gas is at its highest price for 13 years
You've gotta love free market capitalism...

All that empty rhetoric from previous energy ministers Trevelyan and Kwarteng telling us to shop around for the cheapest suppliers and now it ends up, inevitably, in the hands of the 'big boys'. I got myself a faux Sherpa blanket last winter, you can sit snug watching the telly with the heating off.

Exactly It's bollocks isn't it Gonna be a lot of people switching the heating off and wrapped up in blankets

Most working class pensioners do this every year.
Shocking but not surprising.

Still all my older relatives vividly remember growing up with frost on the inside of their windows etc. Having warm houses in winter is a very recent thing.

Shit's gonna get real when the middle classes have to turn off their heating too Yep, they'll just blame Eastern Europeans.👍 The cynical opportunism of the Gas and Leccy companies at this time of the year is just part and parcel of the cycle of greed of capitalism. Both Covid and Brexit are a cover for huge economic changes. They're just getting us all 'used' to them just now. Years from now however....

I remember that vividly, we had steel framed windows and the condensation on the glass would turn to ice. Also, whenever I get a whiff of paraffin, I am transported back to the sixties and visions of a cast iron heater monstrosity sitting on the landing belching out noxious fumes.

My grandad and later uncle ran a hardware shop which, amongst other things distributed paraffin to people with those heaters. Actually it was a combined hardware and toy shop. Weird combo eh? Now it's a Fat Face on the same site.

Anyone remember those wee 2 bar electric fires? Also, connector heaters. Unforgettable. Handy for lighting ciggies though.

Anyone remember those wee 2 bar electric fires? One of my earliest memories is touching the element in order to see what it felt like
