Portishead are/were one of the most amazing British acts of the last thirty years, their first and last album are among my favourite albums ever and I’m certain that “Third” is the best comeback album ever.

By the way, you may be interested to learn I watched Middlesborough beat Arsenal on Sky with Damo Suzuki He seemed disappointed with the outcome too. He didn't say much so I am going by his demeanour. When I asked if liked Arsenal he nodded and smiled enigmatically. He's a man of few words. Or maybe his English isn't up to much. There was no between song banter during his set. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/7122808.stm

I saw them a couple of times in the 90's within 6 months of Dummy being released and there's no denying it was a seminal record of the time but 'Third'definitely is a more meatier affair and it absolutely smoulders👍

I reckon this is the best thing they ever did. Some really-to my mind-punk riffing in there too. The end just swallows you up too👍

I had the whole album blasting out earlier whilst I was clearing out some junk in the house.
It's even better if you haven't heard it for a few years 😎

I remember back in the early 90s, the girl i was working with on a magazine kept mentioning a band her boyfriend was working with called 'Portishead' ...Portishead? Hmmm... That's a very West Country name for a band i thought to myself. It's where my Mum and dad worked in the 1960s when our family first moved down here. TripHop was/is a very Bristol area phenomenon. Portishead put their own, very John Barry-esque spin on the genre... ...and they rather bravely commited commercial suicide, as each album they released was less 'radio friendly' than the one before.

It's a unique sound. I prefer'Third' to Dummy(which sounds more 'ambient)as it has a lot more balls to it. Better written too.

I’d kill a kid every hour if it meant I could go back to that time and attend that festival, did John Cooper Clarke do “Chickentown”? 90% sure he did. I've seen him a few times and he often does it but those performance have got confused in my memory
