Not a massive fan of Gary Numan but I do like some of his early material and as this was sitting on the 'new in' section at the library I thought I'd give it a go.
It's written it a straightforward, plain and matter-of-fact manner which I enjoyed and I suspect is down to Gary having Asperger's.
A chronological layout takes you through from him growing up, early band formations, success with Tubeway Army and then as a solo artist where he dramatically, and to his immediate and ongoing regret held farewell gigs at Wembley in 1981.
It goes on to document his long and slow struggle to regain recognition as an artist, his love of planes and other machinery, his relationship with his parents (his father was his manager for 30 years), mental health issues and his wife and children. The book ends in 2020 with mention of the effect that the covid crisis had on his work.
An enjoyable, but not always easy read.
Just started to read this one, again from the library. So far, so good...

A couple of very interesting books there. Read several interviews with Numan and used to think what an arrogant twat, later realising it was his Aspergers that made him see things in just black and white.
Annie Nightingale never quite got her due. A female surrounded by blokey DJ culture. Often preferred her to Peel to be honest.

I often wish that people would be more 'straight-forward', life would be so much easier if people were honest and direct.
Will report back on the Annie book when I'm done.

Read the Numan one and it was a fairly decent read. Seems a bit obsessed at his press treatment and correcting news reports, so feels a bit like payback with his career resurrection.
