This charming recollection includes radio hits heard on the milk round, notebooks recording the charts, “raging unsatisfied hormones”, Russell Mael’s collection of cereal packets, Lady Gaga playing to an audience of 20, Kurt Cobain somersaulting disturbingly into a pile of Cornflakes, the “lovely” Lou Reed, singing backing vocals with Iron Maiden for 50,000 “foaming Brazilians”, playing in Damon Albarn’s England squad and turning his Dad onto the Cure. And writing a book about Joy Division/New Order in a car (out October).
