BBC iplayer now
2020 and Macclesfield Town FC are wound up in the High Court and cease to exist. Enter local businessman who buys the ground and ropes in Robbie Savage as director of football. No players, no actual playing surface and nine months to convince the FA that they are viable to rejoin the league system. Assorted characters pitch in, a reclusive groundsman steals the show. Lots of swearing, near tears breakdowns but ultimately a heartwarming story of lower league football.

Yes, I enjoyed it but it must be said the viewer needs to have a high tolerance for Robbie Savage He's not really my cup of tea so I had to endure his sizeable role in the film and savour the stuff about the fans Savage inserts himself into everything. Parts of it are pure David Brent There's one moment where Savage wades into some crowd trouble. Extraordinary. How he thought the sight of Robbie Savage would calm down some very angry, drunk men, who knows, however it actually appears to do the trick!

Yes, the programme makers could have limited his screen time a bit. Take solace in that famous quote of his: 'What Messi needs to do is get forward a bit more....' Robbie wouldn't be even worthy of cleaning Lionel's boots Steve Sutton always brings that up when Savage gets too up himself.

I'm baffled why the BBC give Savage so much work. He doesn't seem to have much of interest to say. Chris Sutton is marginally better but is also pretty tedious.
I have never listened to 606 with those two and never will
Sad to think it was Danny Baker and Danny Kelly who started that phone in. It was genius when they did it as it was all about the bizarre aspects of the game and rarely had entitled big six fans wingeing about their team's shortcomings

606 can be a real laugh sometimes. Assorted Gumbies who've probably never kicked a ball in their life demanding Big Sam or Roy Keane should be the new manager of their current crappy poor form club. How Savage and Sutton don't fall on the floor laughing at the inane rants is a mystery
