The much maligned Footsee which I remember seeing on Top of the Pops as a kid and finding very confusing
This clip is great
I'm not sure they are really dancing to Footsee but either way they have some great moves
Yellow vest girl is especially captivating - check her out at around the one minute mark
Also interesting how the vast majority of teens were skinny as fuck in the 1970s

Without googling I think they were maligned as they were just cash in by the Spark record label. Footsie was originally by the US outfit the Chosen Few, 1968. Same as the Wigan's Ovation Skiing In The Snow, also on Spark, originally a minor hit for US vocalists The Invitations. The most hated record is probably Everything is Mickey Mouse/ Concerto by Cartoon Candy Carnival, I never put that in the soul box in the shop.

Ordered a copy of this in for a local lassie. Play tested it twice.... could do with a third play before I part with it. Magnificent.

More modern footage (something to do with the 2011 Northern Soul film) featuring more top notch dancing...

Records like that did spell the end of the traditional Northern scene in the mid seventies. The argument was there was only so many old sixties rare tunes you could play and some DJs progressed into more modern soul which in some cases bordered on disco, the crossover years as some called it. Things have gone full circle now and though I can only speak for North Yorkshire, Soul and Northern Soul Events are quite different and attract different clientele.

So what are the north Yorkshire events like now PU - in terms of music and clientele? I'm off to Northern Soul night next Saturday which will predominantly be 60s I have to say I like a lot of the 70s stuff Ian Levine and co were playing at the Blackpool Mecca and would probably have had a foot in both camps

Scarborough Northern Soul nights are usually for the old original faces. They're good but you can set your watch with the tunes they play, always ending off on Tobi Legend or Frank Wilson. Whitby, however, attracts the younger crowd. A twenty something lad, who regularly comes into the shop, started an event up there a few years back and from just a handful of punters, it's now nearly always full to capacity.

Thanks PU - v interesting If the Scarborough crowed were 100% purist they finish with the "three before eight"... ....Jimmy Radcliffe’s Long After Tonight Is All Over, Tobi Legend’s Time Will Pass You By, and Dean Parrish’s I’m On My Way.
