Following Joni Mitchell and Neil Young announcing they would remove their music from Spotify due to the spread of misinformation on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast shit has just got real
Yep. Prince Harry and Meghan claim they expressed concerns about the spread of misinformation on the platform last April
Spotify acquired The Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2020, reportedly for more than $100m (£77m). Since then, it has grown to be the top-rated podcast on the platform.
Rogan has been known to air vaccine-sceptical views.
Earlier this month, 270 scientists and medical professionals signed a letter urging Spotify to take action against Rogan, accusing him of spreading falsehoods on the podcast.

I'd hope many people follow the example of Neil and Joni
You can't financially support a company that allows the spread of misinformation to millions of its listeners
What about you?

He'll no doubt be seen by some as a "victim" of "cancel culture" by "snowflakes".
But if people want their work removed it's up to them.

Yes but it's only those who can afford it and don't need the exposure any more, Dylan, Elton, Springsteen, McCartney etc. Up and coming groups need all the exposure they can get, even the pittance Spotify pay is needed to keep them fed.

Nils Lofgren has followed suit as you may have expected with the Young connection and is calling on others to do the same. The Harry and Meghan quote is enough to make me start rooting for Spotify though. They really are full of shit though, keeping their big money deal while paying lip service to their woke credentials.

As I understand it the pittance is exactly that - pennies - unless you're Ed Sheeran or Lana Del Rey etc then it's next to nothing Tidal is the big rival to Spotify who do pay their artists considerably more A few friends of mine who bother with music streaming have made the switch

As old skool I tend to just buy what I want direct from the artist wherever possible, these platforms are a disgrace.

This will need verifying of course but artists on Bandcamp claim that if you buy their album or track on that site, they will receive the money that otherwise would take three years of daily listening on Spotify to get the same total.

Good. Anybody who uses Spotify as their sole musical medium, doesn't really love music. It is a blight on bands, robbing them of a fair remuneration for their efforts, which then impacts on venues, promoters and concert goers.

'Music streaming giant Spotify said Monday it will reduce its number of employees by around 17% in a bid to cut costs amid "dramatically" slower economic growth.'
Yet, physical item music sales are increasing year on year. PU does a little jig....

Yet, physical item music sales are increasing year on year. PU does a little jig.... Amazing news I'd never have expected physical sales to come back HMV have reopened their Oxford Street store... After a four-year absence, hmv returns to 363 Oxford Street on 24 November 2023, home of the very first hmv store which opened in 1921... hmv.com/blog/music/363-oxford-street-opens-24-november

Book shops and record shops are the only shops I have any interest in visiting
Thankfully there's still quite a few in my town
