Pere Ubu? What's yer verdict? Ready for the Ubu Dance Party? From... It sez here...
In 1979, Pere Ubu were rapidly expanding their set and new songs were being developed as they were being performed. The year before, Pere Ubu played across the USA and Europe in over 60 gigs. In 1979, they began again in Cleveland with gigs at Pirates Cove and Real World Nite Club, followed by this invitation to play at Cleveland State University in their '1st International Garage Exhibition.' It was, literally, a celebration of garages. Pere Ubu were The Avant Garage, a term that continues to this day. Note: Sentimental Journey at the end has lyrics that would not appear for several years in another song. This recording is from David Thomas' personal archive, consisting of cassettes and cds dating from 1975, released here as part of the Pere Ubu 'official' bootleg releases exclusive to Bandcamp. *Gigs on this European tour (and all gigs from 1976) can be viewed via the calendar at ubuprojex.com.

Was listening to the Pennsylvania album the other week. Great stuff on it. Thomas did some great work as UBUDOLL with Jackie Leven too.

I've been getting ever more impressed by Cloudland (1989) which completely passed me by at the time
A weird pop gem, yep imagine if you will Pere Ubu trying to do straight up pop music
Stephen Hague (see Pet Shop Boys, OMD, New Order etc) produced the album
It gets reassuringly weirder as it goes along though
Interesting and compelling

Ground breaking (and bottle breaking) stuff from Pere Ubu
Did Martin Hannett have this in the back of his mind when producing I Remember Nothing?
