New photographic book about the Los Angeles punk scene 1977-1980. Looks like it might be interesting but expensive. An even more expensive limited edition comes with three 7 inch singles

As the first wave of Punk in Los Angeles is of such deep interest to me, i decided to bite the bullet, so i ordered a copy from Rough Trade USA. I didn't go for the 'Deluxe Version' with the 3 singles although i was sorely tempted.
Total including postage is £70 - sometimes you gotta pay for quality and ...it's still cheaper than going to watch some shitty arena rock band on giant PA Stack screens!

The book arrived today... and it's a much bigger and heavier book than i was expecting. Beautifully printed. It's a superb photo book - many shots were published and are famous from Slash Magazine, but plenty more are unpublished... till now. There's a colour section (mostly shots of The Screamers) - a must if you have a deep interest/love of the first wave of California Punk Here's the info on it... Melanie Nissen was the co-founder and photographer of the legendary Los Angeles magazine, Slash. Between 1977-1980 she photographed the Los Angeles punk scene. Taking photos of the fans, the bands and the scene around her. Local heroes like Screamers, Bags, Germs, X, Go-Go’s, Black Randy, Weirdos, Dils, Zeros, Alley Cats, Deadbeats, Fear along with local legends Brendan Mullen, Kim Fowley, Claude Bessy, Russ Meyer, Penelope Spheeris, northern neighbors The Nuns, Avengers, Crime, Dead Kennedys, The Offs and visitors including Pere Ubu, Magazine, Devo, Damned, Cramps, Dead Boys, Peter Tosh, Ramones and Sex Pistols all form her body of work from this time. These images are from a box in the garage and are all that’s left of a larger body of work.

LIMITED EDITION SCREEN PRINT POSTER ALICE BAG/THE BAGS/MELANIE NISSEN/SHEPARD FAIREY. Arrived yesterday via Airmail from Los Angeles, this amazing limited edition screen printed promo poster, specially designed and printed for an exhibition held last month in the 'City Of Angels' to launch the book of fantastic live and portrait photos by Melanie Nissen (1977-80) called 'Hard+Fast'. I am a HUGE fan of early California Punk Rock, so i am VERY grateful to have one of these screen prints to enjoy!
