I started using them at work in 1984, no idea what they were though. I didn't buy a home PC until 2001,it was made by Mesh Computers and cost a shit load more than computers cost now. Currently I use a laptop running Linux, I stopped using Windows a few years back.
Welcome to the forum btw.

C64 aside, we got our first proper home computer when my son went to senior school in 1996, came with a dot matrix printer and cost around £1300. 16 MB memory I think. Remember downloading a single song took about 20 minutes plus on the old WinMX.

Amstrad PCW 8256. Incredibly primitive by modern standards, but it was a game-changer at the time.

Spectrum 48k Commodore 64 Atari ST Commodore Amiga Moved on to PC around late 1990's and stayed with them since in ever increasing capabilities .Still mainly used for games or emails. I still to this day don't have or never have had or used a mobile phone .

Thinking of WhatsApp groups etc. Not close whatsoever .Not even given it one little thought . Girlfriend uses one and her work place have WhatsApp thing , she declined to join that as it's then bringing work into home which she refuses to do . Social events , people can phone landline or email me . What you never had you never miss.....like I say have never even considered it , like much these days it's something we are told we need , well with this I find otherwise .

Well done Jon
I'm impressed
I find it incredibly handy for stuff like gig tickets, rail tickets, payments, banking, travel, GPS, photography, staying in touch etc
But, yeah, not essential as you know better than most

Funny thing is , despite rubbish graphics , some of those early Spectrum and C64 games were highly playable .Even Amiga and ST games now look extremely dated to say the least, but they were very good at the same time .I spent ages on an ST game called Dungeon Master, I think in those days they were written generally by one person , now they have whole teams on them .
