My five this week are some recently acquired 7 inch singles. The last one’s a bit more commercial than I would normally go for, but I have nostalgic memories of the tune in those pre-punk days. This was their first minor hit, they became huge later Have any of these ever come through the shop PU? Have a great and virus-free weekend everybody Steve and The Board – So Why Pretend [Australia 1966]
Underdogs – Sitting In The Rain [New Zealand 1967. Cover of a John Mayall tune. Super cool film clip]
Five Star Gas – Sledge Hammer [England 1979]
Shandy – Short Hair [Australia 2014]
Not in a stand-alone youtube clip as far as I can see. But you can get it here:
shandyrocks.bandcamp.com/track/short-hairDragon – This Time [NZ band recorded in Australia 1976]

Radio Birdman must have been one of the most influential bands Sydney ever produced. After the band broke up different band members ended up in several other bands: Other Side, Hitmen, Visitors and others. They also inspired lots of bands to tap into their influences: in Sydney they were called Detroit bands, but bands in other cities got into the sound big-time as well. I never saw Birdman, but did see most of the offshoots. I also saw all the bands below (except Chosen Few).
Dedicated to Damien Lovelock
Radio Birdman - Descent Into Maelstrom [1977]
New Race – Hail! Columbia [1981] 16 shows across Australia in 1981. 3 Birdman members - Deniz Tek - Warwick Gilbert - Rob Younger Plus Ron Asheton (Stooges) and Dennis Thompson (MC5)
New Christs – Like A Curse [1984] Rob Younger singing
Lipstick Killers – Hindu Gods of Love [1979] The Celibate Rifles and also Deniz Tek & Rob Younger of Radio Birdman have done versions of this
Chosen Few – Disco Tek Wreck [1978] Put down to disco and homage to Deniz Tek
Celibate Rifles – Killing Time [1983]

I won't be near a computer to do this tomorrow, so here it is now.
I recently bought a pile of records for a bargain price mainly to get a copy of The Pretty Things 'Midnight To Six Man'. I've already flogged that song to death here, or at least on the old forum, so I won't play that again. But here are some of the other records that came in the same batch. It was a good haul
The Pretty Things – Honey, I Need [1965]
The Easybeats – Women [1966]
Eric Burdon and The Animals - See See Rider [1966]
Chain - Black and Blue [1971] Classic Oz blues band – still going I understand
Sister Janet Mead - The Lord's Prayer [1973] Very unlikely hit pop song by this Adelaide nun
Stay healthy, stay away from Boris

^ Three times I have added the words 'I wish him a quick recovery' to the end of the post above, but it never appears in the final version. Is Talk Punk programmed to reject such sentiments?
Happy Easter people

Where I live lots of people go camping or travelling at Easter. Not this year. But the shops are open, so everyone seems to have gone shopping for furniture instead. I suppose there is a new-found appreciation for home comforts
