I thought Boaby Gilliespie would have named this 'Tenement Wean' seeing as he claims to have grown up in the back middens of Springburn but I digress as obviously the global market wasn't ready for such a parochial title.
Still, this is the dug's bollocks if you like Primal Scream but it's also a good read if you like the reminiscing of working class life, fitba, punk and indie music.
Boaby is also the son of the of the Labour Politician Bob Gilliespie-who famously got trounced by Jim Sillars of the SNP at the 1988 Govan By election-so there's plenty of socialist references.
Without giving too much away, this is the rise of Primal Scream from non descript indie shoegazers(they played with Stalag 17 from Belfast in Edinburgh in the mid 80's whereby the punk's outnumbered the shoegazers by at least 5-1)to influential dance band of the early 90's.
For me it's a touch overlong and his ghost writer gets his geography mixed up a lot(where the fuck is 'Pollokshields Road?)but it's a fun read if you're a Soo'sider like me.
Another thing:You can obviously tell that Boaby has been on the sweeties when narrating this to his ghost writer as he doesn't half talk some shite sometimes.🤣
He wanted Sex, Drugs, Rock'n'Roll and London and he got it🤣
