My life has been blighted with depression. It got so bad that I once asked for electroconvulsive therapy. It didn't happen and I'm glad about that. Although I'm always interested to read about people's experiences of it. It's rarely used nowadays, seemingly. I had a dabble with magic mushrooms in my youth and early adulthood. The first time I did them me and my friends were absolutely blitzed on them, a vivid memory. Taking a much smaller dose a few years later , all I recall is feeling very horny. I'm on antidepressants now but I'm really not sure they're working. I still get terrible bouts of the blues. But I think that's maybe down to a lack of activity and of course too much exposure to the horror of modern life. www.independent.co.uk/voices/psychadelic-treatments-depression-psilocybin-research-b2060005.html

Sorry to read that Stu
I think you've nailed it with your lack of activity and too much online exposure - but I realise it's easier said than done to change those things
Exercise, activity, getting outside etc etc is great medicine

stu77 I’ve met people who used MDMA & LSD and it’s had a positive impact on mental health but I’ve never used those things while suffering from depression so can’t speak from personal experience to the positive impact it may have. It’s not a huge deal, though, so maybe couldn’t hurt to try.

The last time I took the mushies was over 30 years back and I thought they were a laugh to be honest.😄
However, prolonged use of any drug is destructive.
The only thing I do these days is drink and that's only in the context of what I'm doing and what I enjoy.
I think everyone suffers from depression to greater or lesser degrees. It's all part and parcel of dealing with the world and other people.
Some people escape and some people focus and some do a mixture of both. I've found the best antidote to 'the Blues' is creativity.
Hate, violence and drugs are the road to destruction mentally.
If people haven't realised that by the time they're in their 50's, there's something seriously wrong with them I reckon.
