Dunno if there's ever been a thread on this but after listening to the brilliant Toxic Reasons session, it got me thinking about the others I listened to at the time and later.
Any personal favourites?

D&V were a band who firstly released a single on the Crass label and despite only using drums and vocals they wrote some fine, fine tunes.
Their Peel session further embellishes their sound as below demonstrates. What could have been a bit of a musical straitjacket became a bit of a triumph amidst all the noisy shit of 'the scene' back then.

Lots come to mind, here's a few that I really like -
Rubella Ballet 1982 & 83. Siouxsie - 1977 & 78.
The Damned - 1976, 77 & 79. The Slits - 1977.
The Adverts - 1977 (x 2). ATV - 1977. The Cure - 1978 & 79.
There's loads more really good ones, X-Ray Spex, U.K. Subs, Penetration, Ruts..... etc....

Aye,I thought it had been done somewhere but I'm going to have a listen or revisit some of the ones you mentioned over the next few weeks. I had a lot of them taped directly off the radio at the time.
Still got them in a box somewhere. Daren't play them though in case they get chewed up in my 'tape recorder'😃

I thought it was impressive that The Damned from 1979 onwards did something different with their Peel Sessions... rather than just repeat what was already on their records. The Captain unleashes a spectacular feedback fest to finish 'Therapy'...
Some bands totally nailed it at the Beeb The Chameleons albums are great... but the Peel sessions they recorded are consistently sublime...

Totally Andy.
Even Crass deviated from the template which made them sound even scarier

Some bands nailed it, some didn't. I always thought that The Stranglers 1977 session was lacking, whether it's the band being complacent, poor production or a combination I dunno... Here's a couple of raucous ones from the Mekons, they also did Where Were You, Garden Fence Of Sound and Lonely And Wet on this 1978 session -

If it hadn't been for the John Peel sessions Métal Urbain cut in 1978, their legacy of recordings would have been a much slimmer volume. With a sound like an angry ticking timebomb, programmed beats, no drums, no bass guitar, they really were ahead of their time...
