As a kid growing up on one of the many new housing estates south of Birmingham, Tiswas was the best ( and only way ) way to spend Saturday morning. It eventually went nationwide, but we were there at the start. Clearly this is an auction cobbled together to raise a few quid for a worthy cause. There are one or two good items though, such as the original intermission card. www.ewbankauctions.co.uk/component/com_bidding/id,771/layout,catalogue/view,timed/

Nottingham was on the ATV network too, so we got it early. It was a programme that I never grew out of, even as a 20 year old I would stumble down, bleary eyed from the night before to watch grown men throwing custard pies and buckets of water at each other.
Music was great as well, Motorhead, Generation X and even The Clash turned up to promote London Calling, of which there is some grainy footage on YouTube with Topper looking completely out of it.

Does anyone remember that 'Tiswas for adults ' series OTT that was on on Saturday nights in 81 or 82? I thought it was good but seemed to be slagged by the critics.

I thought it was quite funny but barely remember anything other than a woman jumping up on a snooker table and getting her thru penny bits out to the delight of the audience. And no, it wasn't Sally James. And it was all quite boorish.

We got it in Scotland later(must have been around 77/78?)and I loved it.
Whilst all the posh kids were phoning in trying to swap shite that we couldn't afford shite like stamp collections on BBC1, we had this anarchic mess on the other side with punk bands and custard pies thrown by people in balaclavas.
Saturday mornings have never been as good since.
Even that fascist Bernard Manning laughed...

That's right Underneath the vid of the Balloon Dance it says performed on OTT (Over The Top) the late night adult spin-off from Tiswas - that's what I was asking I do remember that so must have seen the first OTT Your comment, rogue, about the boorishness rings a bell too Don't think I was all that impressed

Mind you I had moved on by then. If you look at Tiswas now, the kids are just sitting there bewildered by what's going on. I think Lenny Henry deserves a lot of credit for what he did as a young comic back then. I doubt it could be made today due to the likes of the right wing liberals masquerading as 'progressives'.

Couldn't even get a job in a factory so all those punk lyrics were written by 'lucky bastards'! I see all of the 'Young Ones' is being streamed on Iplayer just now. Might revisit it. I loved the surrealism beneath the actually main 'story'.
