This is a fantastic book.
Gabriel Byrne probably isn't as 'famous' as some people think and after reading this that's probably the way he likes it.
Known for both 'Miller's Crossing' and 'The Usual Suspects', this autobiography barely mentions them.
However this isn't an 'autobiography as such but a series of lyrical and vivid fragments of Gabriel Byrnes life from Ireland to England to the US where he currently lives.
Thats not to say, it doesn't have a cohesive narrative (as it does), it's just beautifully and memorably written with passages about his family, his reasons and his inspiration for acting and his recollections of growing up just outside Dublin.
It also has it's dark moments which are relayed to the reader incisively and descriptively but it never becomes an uncomfortable read.
So if you want to have a good read, pick a night off from everyone, sit in a room yourself and give this a go(preferably in the one sitting)and get lost in Gabriel's story.
10/10

I'd got it as a present and forgot I had it until I was watching this programme about Billy Connolly when he was in this Florida bookshop and he'd mentioned he'd read it and that prompted me to get it off my revolving bookshelf.👍
