E-scooters? I suspect they are part of the future of city transport but perhaps with a few rules about their use to ensure greater safety for all What's yer verdict? Do you own one? Are you tempted? I noticed this in today's issue of The Times... A grandmother has become the first pedestrian in Britain to be killed after being hit by an e-scooter.
Linda Davis, 71, known to her family and friends as Lou, was walking in Rainworth, Nottinghamshire, on June 2 when a 14-year-old boy riding a privately owned electric scooter collided with her on the pavement.
She was taken to hospital but died on Wednesday last week. Nottinghamshire police said in a statement: “The rider, a 14-year-old boy, remained at the scene and contacted emergency services. He has since been interviewed under caution and remains under investigation while enquiries continue.
In 2021 nine people were killed in collisions involving e-scooters, all of whom were riders, compared to one person in 2020. Davis’s death marks the first time a pedestrian has been killed by an e-scooter.RIP Linda Davis

That's very sad. These things are littering the footpath all over town where I live (and e-bikes). Tourists are forever coming off them and ending up in hospital, blocking up the system. Chuck the things in the creek if you get a chance

Interesting.
When you say "blocking up the system" what do you mean?
They cause traffic jams?
They block pavements?
Something else?
I would think that the ability to go down small spaces would make the risk the blockages less?

Probably cheaper just to get "twat" tattooed on your forehead.

This is my dream thread! I’m on those things all of the time and I love them. Have you ever had a crash? Or a near miss? Do you go on pavements? Or just the road? Once when I went up a curb while breathing warm air into my left hand and I seem to remember another time but I can’t remember it atm. I usually ride on both depending on which one is most empty, I usually use them early in the morning or late at night so there’s not usually much difference. Taxis into town used to cost £2.70 about three or so years ago but now it’s £6.10 so me and my friends usually drive them to and from nights out as it only costs £2.

Thanks Makes a lot of sense Fuzz around here decided we couldn’t have passengers and I guess it’s always been illegal to drive them drunk but I’ll usually drop my friend off in the early hours anyway.

This is my dream thread! I’m on those things all of the time and I love them. Have you ever had a crash? Or a near miss? Do you go on pavements? Or just the road? Nearly always on the footpath here. Huge fucken nuisance. The way smog is using them maybe is okay, but these fuckers are also doing it during the middle of the day on busy footpaths. These things came to Singapore a few years earlier than here. I don't know what the situation is there now, but a friend told me of lots trouble with people using them on major high speed thoroughfares as well as crowded footpaths. Lots of accidents. Do you have mono wheels as well? I have only soon one in use here. The rider had full helmet, gloves etc. Not like this temporary citizen

I've seen those mono things - never really caught on though
e-scooters make a lot of sense
You can rent them in Bristol courtesy of the council
Just think their legal definition needs to be sorted out and perhaps some safety rules for riders

E-scooter ban Canterbury has become the first city to ban E-scooters over safety concerns after an 80-year-old woman was hit by a rider and suffered a broken wrist and jaw. A pilot scheme that allowed residents to hire the vehicles will be terminated by 1 December, with no scooters thereafter allowed on the city’s roads. A proposal from the Department for Transport to extend the trial until 2024 was rejected by Kent County Council. metro.co.uk/2022/09/12/city-to-ban-e-scooters-after-two-year-trial-because-of-safety-issues-17354097/

I saw a grown man wearing a ski mask on an electric scooter mowing down some passengers at a bus stop last week whilst in the work canteen.
He was off up the street pursued by a couple of members of the young team.
As they are vehicles, they should be regulated or banned.
